About Us

Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age.  Fifteen-year-olds may participate in limited construction activites such as painting, caulking, landscaping. Volunteers of the age of 16 and 17 are permitted to participate in construction but are not allowed to use power tools. Parents must sign a waiver for all minors under the age of 18.

• Volunteers may stay in a local hotel or at Lagniappe Presbyterian Church.  Lagniappe is a church and volunteer housing facility here in Bay St. Louis.  Volunteers stay in bunkhouses that are gender separate.  Lagniappe's main building houses the bathrooms and showers, cafeteria, and common areas for gathering. The cost to stay at Lagniappe is $20 per person per night and includes 3 meals per day.  Please bring a sleeping bag, pillow and a towel. Check-in at Lagniappe is on Sunday evening between 5-6:30 with orientation following at 7 p.m. Most groups check-in on Sunday evening and check-out the following Saturday.  If you wish to stay at Lagniappe please let our volunteer coordinator know, she will make a reservation for you. Please do not contact Lagniappe directly.  Visit Lagniappe's website for more information: www.lagniappechurch.com.

Volunteers are responsible for travel to and from the Bay St. Louis area as well as to and from the job site.  Gulfport/Biloxi International airport is apporoximately 30 minutes from Bay St. Louis and Louis Armstrong International airport in New Orleans is a little over an hour away.  You can rent cars or vans at both of these airports.

The construction schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. until around 4:30 p.m. Volunteers must arrive on-site at 8 a.m.  We have also just added Saturday as a construction day, if your group wishes to work this day please let the volunteer coordinator know.  Saturday is subject to change, inquire with construction staff the week you are here to find out if they plan to build that day.

We have several tool trailers and all the tools you should need.  Please feel free to bring your own hand tools if you are more comfortable.

You must wear close-toed shoes-boots or sneakers are fine.  You may wear shorts or pants.  May-September can be very hot, please bring a hat, sunscreen, BUG SPRAY, and a water bottle.  Often times rain showers pop up mid-afternoon we suggest you bring rain gear with you.  Give the weather a check before you come!

"We had an incredible experience working with you all and our homeowner, Ashley.  It was amazing!!  We will be back, my husband and I felt it was just the beginning of our time and work with Habitat."

"It's impossible for me to explain in detail all that I have taken from this trip. Though I know we all built 10 homes in a week. I know that we made a difference in those families’ lives . . . I know it will be an experience I will not forget and I hope that this is not the end of such experiences for myself, SEI, Lagniappe Church, and I know it’s not the end for the Gulf Region."
---Alan

"Once again, THANKS.  Already I miss you guys.  My best to you all."
---Hank

"Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the JRCWP. It was our first blitz build and we learned a lot and met some great folks. You at HFH Bay Waveland were so kind and helpful."
