Hurricane Katrina

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Mississippi. Hancock County was square in its path. A category 3 hurricane, it had sustained winds of 120 miles per hour and caused a 28 foot storm surge that innundated much of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, including the cities of Waveland and Bay St. Louis. These pictures, taken a few weeks after the hurricane, document some of the sweeping damage that occurred in these communities.
